Executive Director, Los Angeles Human Relations Commission Rabbi Allen I. Freehling is the Executive Director of the Human Relations Commission for the City of Los Angeles. He was formerly the Senior Rabbi of the University Synagogue in Orange County and is that congregation's first Rabbi Emeritus for Life. Highly respected as a community activist for a number of significant causes, he has served as President of the Board of Rabbis of Southern California, President of the Pacific Region of the American Jewish Congress, Chair of the Southwest Region's Synagogue Council, Founding Chair of the Los Angeles County Commission on AIDS, and Founding Chair of the AIDS Interfaith Council of Southern California. He has received numerous awards for his community service, including The Crystal Achievement Award from AIDS Project Los Angeles, The Bishop Daniel Corrigan Commendation for Spiritual Leadership from The Episcopal Diocese of Southern California, The Silver Angel Religion in Media award, The Humanitarian of the Year award from The National Conference on Justice and Community, and The Social Responsibility Award from The Los Angeles Urban League. Rabbi Freehling is also a Lifetime Honored Member in America 's Registry of Outstanding Professionals.
